Early arrivals will get to sample my Mom's baking

Dear Readers:

You have been a significant part of my life over the past two years. Your visits to CityCaucus.com, your comments, your emails and your questions obliged us to continue this communication.

It is for this reason I would like you to join me, members of my family and assorted friends for the announcement of what has been described as the "worst kept secret" in the city by Vancouver Sun reporter Jeff Lee.

VENUE: Roundhouse Community Centre in Yaletown (map)
TIME: 10am sharp
DATE: Wednesday, April 20th

An email RSVP is not required, but would help us to prepare. Email mike@klassenforvancouver.com.

My Mom asked me if she could help out with the event, so I asked her to bake some muffins. If you get there early enough you might get one, which I can assure you are quite tasty.

Yes, I'll be announcing a decision about making a move into public life. Last week I began an indefinite hiatus with 24 Hours newspaper, described in a recent column by new editor-in-chief Suzanne Wilton. Stepping into my shoes to take over the paper's civic affairs column will be my CityCaucus.com colleague Daniel Fontaine, one of the sharpest minds on local urban issues and politics I know.

As those who have also made the move into public life before me can attest, this is not a decision to be taken lightly. It has only been possible with the support of my immediate family.

The question which follows has been what happens with CityCaucus.com? I want to assure you that the site is going to continue providing as much as our writer's schedules will allow. CityCaucus.com's news and analysis will continue, albeit with some significant changes in the days to come. Stay tuned for details.

As for Wednesday morning, I'd be honoured if you would be able to join me for this brief event, which will be over by 10:30am.

Can`t make your launch but will put a check mark beside your name on the ballot in November.

Mike, Congratulations!

Some things just make you smile and this is one of them!

Cheers,
M

My very best wishes for electoral success Mike. You will add considerable quality to the decision making at City Hall and all residents will benefit from your knowledge, and enthusiasm for a great city.
Go get em.

So pleased to hear you are running. Best of luck with your announcement. Great to see our first "social media" candidate on council. Make sure you don't forget us little people when you get to city hall. Keep the two way dialogue going strong.

Thank you for stepping up for us.

I offer this advice in the interest of your and your colleagues electoral success; do NOT let the NPA board troll old age homes for campaign managers!!! Please make sure the persons chosen know what social media is and how to use it.

Good luck!

10am on a Wednesday? Us little people have to work!

You're a smart guy, but assuming you run under the NPA...I don't know if that will matter.

Good luck

Congratulations, Mike! That's great and the citizens of Vancouver are lucky to have you running. Now let's make sure to get you elected.

Mike:

Please promise us that you will not leave council meetings to 'microwave your dinner' aka, Councilor Chow during today's council vote on 'bylaw' amendments.....

Go, Mike, go !!!

Can't wait to call you Councilor Klassen.

The people of Vancouver are very fortunate that you have chosen to throw your hat into the municipal political ring. Perhaps, with your candidacy, and pending election to Council, we can finally restore responsible, and responsive, democracy to City Hall.

Congratulations! You definitely have my support - it would be great to have someone like you at City Hall!

Bonne chance!

Mike,
As a friend of yours for many years, I have come to appreciate and admire your hard work in making Vancouver a great city to live in. We don't always see eye-to-eye on ideology, but I know you to be a great listener and as someone willing to give great thought and consideration to opposing viewpoints. Those skills coupled with your personal characteristics of integrity, honesty, and ethics will serve you well in your quest. I wish you the best of luck.
