Early arrivals will get to sample my Mom's baking
You have been a significant part of my life over the past two years. Your visits to CityCaucus.com, your comments, your emails and your questions obliged us to continue this communication.
It is for this reason I would like you to join me, members of my family and assorted friends for the announcement of what has been described as the "worst kept secret" in the city by Vancouver Sun reporter Jeff Lee.
VENUE: Roundhouse Community Centre in Yaletown (map)
TIME: 10am sharp
DATE: Wednesday, April 20th
An email RSVP is not required, but would help us to prepare. Email firstname.lastname@example.org.
My Mom asked me if she could help out with the event, so I asked her to bake some muffins. If you get there early enough you might get one, which I can assure you are quite tasty.
Yes, I'll be announcing a decision about making a move into public life. Last week I began an indefinite hiatus with 24 Hours newspaper, described in a recent column by new editor-in-chief Suzanne Wilton. Stepping into my shoes to take over the paper's civic affairs column will be my CityCaucus.com colleague Daniel Fontaine, one of the sharpest minds on local urban issues and politics I know.
As those who have also made the move into public life before me can attest, this is not a decision to be taken lightly. It has only been possible with the support of my immediate family.
The question which follows has been what happens with CityCaucus.com? I want to assure you that the site is going to continue providing as much as our writer's schedules will allow. CityCaucus.com's news and analysis will continue, albeit with some significant changes in the days to come. Stay tuned for details.
As for Wednesday morning, I'd be honoured if you would be able to join me for this brief event, which will be over by 10:30am.
