WinterFest at Lonsdale

LonsdaleQuay.jpgENDED FEB 28, 2010: A 17 day WinterFest celebration is planned for Lonsdale Quay (across Burrard Inlet), a popular tourist destination situated on the waterfront in North Vancouver. Organizers tell they are planning numerous concerts, face painting, live cultural and street performances and much much more. A large screen on site will broadcast CTV's live Olympic coverage. Kid’s activities feature a newly renovated ballroom and animated play area with games and rides open daily from 9am – 9pm. Face painting and the ever-popular ‘Q’ balloons will be offered daily from 11am – 4pm.

There will be face painting by Alice and the Mad Hatter of Looking Glass Face Painting as well as appearances by BC Parks Jerry the Moose and a Ranger. If you like live music and entertainment and want to have loads of fun, be sure to drop by during the Games! The best way to get there from Vancouver is TransLink's SeaBus service between downtown and Lonsdale Quay. Some of the street performers include Miss Molotov, Fire Performer and Piper McKenzie. We pretty much wasted our time going there since we had to take the seabus. Time we could have spent at other olympic venues. It was really a hoax, the way they describe what's happening there.

Visited the Quay on the weekend and had a wonderful time! Wonderful entertainment, face painting for kids, and a really vibrant atmosphere. We grabbed a bite to eat in the food court and watched an Olympic event on the big tv's. It was a beautiful day and we were able to walk over and tour the Russian ship. Just a lovely experience.

Went to the Quay on Saturday the 20th around 1pm. Wasn't really anything there out of the ordinary except more crowds. A group of musicians playing outside with a woman singing off key. I feel bad for anyone who took the seabus over thinking they would find a good experience. The line going back to Vancouver was out of the terminal and around the corner, about a 2 hours wait!

Lonsdale Quay management should be ashamed of themselves, talk about missing out on the party. Have walked through the Quay twice during the games and both times the entertainers were playing to a few people sitting drinking coffee, the big screen TV shows advertising (wonder how these advertisers feel about the money they spent?)and is situated along side the market facing the street. NO LIVE TV. The Quay with it's plaza is a perfect venue for a properly organised event. Both my husband and I are involved in the games and have been working long hours, Friday night by 9:00 pm we were both home and too tired to head back downtown so thought we'd check out the Quay thinking there was bound to be something going on...wrong... absolutely nothing! I could go on but I have ranbled enough. You have missed a wonderful opportunity to showcase the market and North Vancouver to World.

Awful. Why advertise a "Winterfest" and have absolutely nothing there? Someone handing out packaged clown noses streetside just didn't cut it. The only reason I'm not completely disappointed is because it was walking distance to the Russian tall ship. That was worth seeing.

There was nothing there.

My sister took her 2 year old there and found nothing other than the regular Lonsdale Quay. Not a balloon to be found anywhere.

Agree with previous comment. I took my daughters to the Quay on Saturday morning expecting to see the "kids activities" only to see nothing different from any other day at the Quay.

Very disappointing. We took our 3 year old for the "kids activities", only to find that the room with interactive games and activities is the exact same little space with loonie operated rides that is always at the Quay. The only things different were the face painters and caricature drawings, both of which were an extra charge. There were a number of families milling around looking for the kids activities and all expressed disappointment. Give it a miss...
