Russian Tall Ship

russiantallship.jpgENDED FEB 28, 2010 If you see a big Russian tall ship floating in Burrard Inlet during the Games (see video), it's all part of the festivities surrounding the Olympics. On Feb 10th the four-masted sailing ship Kruzenshtern arrived in North Vancouver to help promote the Sochi 2014 Winter Games. The ship will be accessible at North Vancouver's Burrard Dry Dock several days a week as well as for private sailings. The Russian President is expected to pay a visit as well as other senior Russian dignitaries. CityCaucus.com has been told the ship will likely be open to the public only during the day. Check out the post we wrote on the ship's arrival for more information. You can see the ship docked there now from the public pier. According to comments, there is an admission fee ($18 adults, $8 youth). Therefore, until we are clear on the details we are taking it off our "Free" venues listing.

The dock is located east of the Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver. The best way to access it is via the SeaBus link across Burrard Inlet between downtown Vancouver and North Vancouver. For directions on how to get there, click here. Tours available – visit www.kruzenshtern.net.

Neither the phone number given to arrange tours nor the email address work!

Does anyone know what time the ship is expected to leave on the 28th? (or is it leaving after the 28th? I'd love to see it head out (even if it doesn't leave under full sail). It would be neat to see it go under the lions gate as there is not much room under there for a ship of this size.

A little heads up to the folks not in the know. The Kruzenshtern is NOT a wooden hulled tall ship. Fans of wooden sailing vessels may be disapointed to learn the bloody thing doesn't have a single piece of wood on it. The hull is steel, the masts are steel and the yard arms are steel. Much of the rigging relies on steel cable as well and if you check it out you can hear the sound of engines near the aft of the ship. The crew seems very disinterested in the goings on, but they are willing to pose for the occasional photo.
The tour is $18 dollars per adult and $8 dollars per child. If you want to join the disco cruise it's another $28 dollars.
Over priced and not worth it in my opinion. Save your money for something better.

You mean it's free to walk around the dock and look at the outside of the ship? Of course it is!!!! Surely we're not being charged to walk around in a free country!!!!!!!!

Just like everything related to the Olympics, pay through the nose and and out the other end it blows. Guess they have to generate some financial resources for Russia to be able to host the next winter Olympics. Wonder how big their budget will be and who will be paying the billion dollar fee.
Wave your little red mittens in the air if you don't care!!!

I visited this boat on Friday night to watch some bands play. What a clustersmuck the whole event was. I paid $48.00 to go to a cancelled show.

They are even trying to charge babies, like 6 month-old babies (their parents are with them!) admission. This boatshow is unorganized and the Russian staff onboard are as cold as a penguin's scrotum. I don't recommend visiting this attraction to anyone.

I can't believe the request to have a "private sailing".

Originally, the earlier Olympics were about people from other countries coming together in the spirit of brotherhood and athletic competition.

Sadly, people like Ms. Lambert and many others see today's Olympics as a way to flaunt their money, and exclude their neighbors from participation. Today's Olympics are too expensive, too corporate sponsored, and too commercialized. We have lost our way and lost our common values.

It is still free from the dock. The tour is not that extensive and not worth the $18.

It's not free, even 2 years must pay $8, ouch.

Went to take the tour of the ship today. It is NOT FREE. $18.00 for adults.

I am wondering where I can buy tix for nite club event ?

I went down today around 2pm. It is very big an awesome to go check out...I am not sure about when we can take a tour. but the fellow there said they will be having it open soon. I was really neat to see all of the ropes and just the size of it!

What time should I be there to watch the ship come in. I looked at the tide tables and think it would be around 6pm instead of early morning. Am I right or has it already arrived? Thanks, info much appreciated!

Officials tell us the ship will arrive between 8-9 am...but this is obviously subject to change.

What is the expected arrival time of the ship Vancouver on Feb 10 ???
Appreciate your reply

This is the link to info about the ship... it doesn't mention anything being free although I suppose it would be cool just to look at it from the dock. The cheapest is $48 for the "nightclub" event.

What a beautiful looking ship...I do hope we will be able go onboard. Also, thanks fellas for putting all this info together...it's like one-stop shopping.

It would be a once in a lifetime opportunity to go on a sail on the big ship. If there is going to be this event, I would love to be contacted. MN

So excited for this! The ship is named for one of our an ancestors, Adamm von Krusenstern. He and his crews did most of the mapping of the Pacific and is the names sake of Krusenstern Sound up in Alaska. I do hope we can go on the ship, after all we share the name! Thanks for sharing all these links of free things to do!

It's really worth to see. Once in the life time experience. I hope it will be free

up to 200 people.83 year old.

Please leave it open to the public, not the rich few who can rent it out privately.
Looks pretty impressive though, how many people can board it?

I am interesting in a private sailing can yu let me know when and how much it will be

Thank you
