For the lowly bloggers and other peons back here in Lotusland, we must now take some solace now that we're only one degree of separation from Academy Award winning actor Meryl Streep. We spotted this little clipping of our friend, former Mayor Sam Sullivan recently making the NY Times Sunday Styles page (that's the one that everyone really reads) in the company of Meryl "Mamma Mia" Streep. Sullivan was an invited guest of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation "Magical Evening" Gala last month.
Sam, who is building the new non-profit Global Civic Policy Society devoted to improving citizenship knowledge and sustainable urban growth, has been in and out of town lately visiting the East Coast and as far away as China. It's not every day that you get to mix with A-listers like Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman (also at the Christopher Reeve Foundation Gala) when you're from a backwater like Vancouver, so we thought it was worth nothing.
Sullivan was cynically dismissed by the Vision Vancouver caucus during his term as mayor as someone who merely loved the company of notable people like Bill Clinton, Al Gore and the Dalai Lama. Well, as mayor I guess you get accused of a lot of stuff, including being a starf*cker.
