Commissioner Constance Barnes' lawyer showed up in court today

A number of media showed up to provincial court in Vancouver this morning only to find that September 24th has now been scheduled as the next likely date that Constance Barnes will plead guilty to drinking and driving.

According to the CKNW website:

The lawyer for Constance Barnes has appeared in provincial court to set a date of September 24th for a guilty plea and sentencing.

NPA park commissioner Ian Robertson says this has been a big distraction.

He says she should have entered her plea at the earliest opportunity and accepted responsibility.

Barnes recently finished an alcohol treatment program and received a loan of three-thousand-dollars from the city to help cover the cost.

Constance Barnes was first elected on the Vision Vancouver slate last November and obtained the highest number of votes of any Park Board Commissioner.
