Mayor Robertson looking distracted before the media

Metro Vancouver's gang war is right up there among the Mayor Robertson's top concerns, alongside the cool weather. We know this thanks to Gregor's Twitter post late Friday:

wants winter and gang war to end. given hope today by major arrests and seeing migrating geese

We may end up needing all that public relations advice with international media after all. You remember, the help that the City Manager signed on for $60,000? Thanks to comments Mayor Robertson made about how we're losing our streets to gangs, we're shaking the confidence of those who are inviting the world to the 2010 Games.

International media are taking increasing interest in Vancouver thanks to the upcoming 2010 Olympics. Now they're telling the world about Vancouver's pre-Games gang wars. It's speculated that Friday's press conference with Police Chief Jim Chu was meant as damage control for the Mayor's earlier comments.

We expect that in light of this someone will mention to the Mayor that the Games are supposed to succeed, and to be careful with his choice of words, and what he punches into his Blackberry.

Well what is more important for you: the 2(4) weeks of fame of Vancouver or safety of Vancouver citizens in their everyday life.

I hope someone make you aware someday that the Olympic is not what makes a great city. Being aware of and working on the current CITY problem are what a Mayor is elected for. I do not want my Mayor focusing and putting my cities issue aside just to look "pretty" to the eyes of the outside.
