Fun with Google Maps

If you've ever driven Kingsway across the Burnaby-Vancouver border you've see The Telus Boot. It's an office building built in the mid-1970s. I practically grew up in its shadow, biking trails in Central Park across the street. I've never looked at it from above until I used Google Maps' fabulous Satellite feature.

Now I know what Elton John might have felt like as he played the Pinball Wizard in Tommy. The movie came out around the same time as the building rose from the ground. Hmmm...a coincidence? Perhaps not.

I shouldn't give away all my ideas, but I think that eventually someone will come up with an online game that tests people to figure out where a place is using aerial shots from Google Maps or Microsoft Live Maps.
