First it was the 60-storey Ritz Carlton project that was halted. Now sources within Vancouver City Hall are indicating that the Hotel Georgia project may not be quite as tall as originally planned. In fact, it would appear that the current economic crisis might mean the project only reaches as tall as the highest level of the parkade - for now.
The Ritz and the Hotel Georgia developments would have thankfully joined the Shangri La and the Wall Centre as the four tallest towers to grace Vancouver's skyline. Given Vancouver's penchant for shunning tall towers, this project was a welcomed addition to the city's skyline.
In 2007, the Vancouver Sun reported that real estate agents for hollywood celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez and Shaquille O'Neal were expressing interest. The project was to cost an estimated $400 million dollars and be open by the Summer of 2010.
The project is being developed by the Delta Group and marketed by Sotheby's International Realty.
